Nasty Mind: Favre Injury, Oudin, Brady Quinn

Brady Quinn named starter for Cleveland Browns
[From Cleveland.com] Brady Quinn to (probably) start vs. Vikings
I like this move. Reports I’ve been hearing about the two is that, while Anderson may have the edge in experience, Brady Quinn is a better leader and has a more evident love of football. In order for this team to stick it to Peter King, they first need somebody who can lead them. This team has a lot of problems on both offense and defense, but sticking with a starting Quarterback is the first step of what will be a very long process in the Browns finally winning something.
[From mlive.com] Matt Stafford to start for Lions
Althuogh Dante Culpepper has looked better than Matt Stafford this season, as expected, Matt Stafford looks to have more chemistry with Calvin Johnson. I like these two to score a lot of touchdowns this season and start with a habitually terrible Saints defense this weekend. The Big Nasty Athletic Dept likes The Lions to cover the +13 spread at New Orleans, and in order for that to happen, these two need to get going ASAP.
[From ESPN.com] Melanie Oudin’s straight set loss to Caroline Wozniacki in The U.S. Open Quarterfinals ends amazing run
Like most red-blooded Americans, I was intrigued by this story of a Southern-Belle from Georiga taking the tennis world by storm at The U.S. Open. I usually do not like upsets as much as your average sports enthusiast, but women’s tennis lacks star power outside of The Williams’ sisters and it was good to see a fresh new face to give it the theatrical boost it needs. Watching Oudin in The Quarterfinals on center stage in prime time for the first time, I just didn’t think Melani Oudin looked comfortable for one second. This Cinderella run was a great experience for the ’Bulldog Country Belle’ as she continues to grow into her sudden superstardom. I’d imagine that this isn’t the last we’ve seen of Melanie Oudin.

[From The New York Post] Queens resident faces tresspassing charges after hugging Rafael Nadal
This was some scary stuff. I’m just glad this wasn’t some crazed attempted murderer like the guy who ran up on Monica Seles years ago. You’d think after the infamous Monica Seles incident, where she was stabbed by a crazed fan, USTA security would do everything in their worldy power to ensure that no fan comes within a mile of the talent’s tennis bag. A similar incident occurred during The French Open earlier this year where yet another crazed tennis fan/zealot ran on to the court at Roland Garros to taunt Roger Federer. Obviously some changes need to be made, internally, for incidents like this to never happen again. Come on, Tennis, do better.
[From The New York Times] Jets GM Tannenbaum: Jets hid Favre injury
This news came out of left field for me as some sportswriter in Minnesota, probably expecting yet another routine weekly Favre press conference, stumbled upon this pot of gold. It is rare to see the words ‘Favre’ and injury report in the same sentence with significant meaning behind it, but with Favre recently admitting he probably should have been benched towards the end of last season, it will be interesting to see how The Vikings handle Favre’s next injury situation when should it rear its ugly head.
