Melanie Oudin has become the Cinderella story of The U.S. Open

Melanie Oudin, the sensational 17-year old who has come out of nowhere to become the dark horse favorite to win the U.S. Open, shocked another ranked player to reach the U.S. Open quarterfinals. This time it was 13th-seeded Nadia Petrova, who took the first set 6-1 and was five points away from setting the preverbal Cinderella clock to midnight.  However Oudin fought, battled, and fist-pumped her way to another thrilling victory, winning 1-6, 7-6(2), 6-3

Oudin’s statistics in her 4th round matchup with Nadia Petrova (only 19 winners, 32 unforced errors, and no aces) won’t jump off the pages.  However her pick-and-choose, defense-before-offense strategy has carried her through this tournament with upset wins over the likes of 4th-seeded Elena Dementieva, 13th-seeded Nadia Petrova, and 29th-seeded Maria Sharapova

The next stop on this Cinderrella carriage ride will pit Oudin against another top-10 opponent as she squares off against 9th-seeded Caroline Wozniacki.
