College Football Crapshoot: Red River Rerun, USC/ND, and some other Crap

The BCS makes its inexplicably controversial (I never understood how something that’s supposed to be an exact science could be so controversial) debut after this week, and you can bet every nickel in your change purse that there will be a heightened sense of competitiveness in week 7 as various schools try to impress computers with big time wins.

HERE’S WHAT I KNOW IS GOING TO HAPPEN:

I KNOW Wisconsin will beat #11Iowa. We took Iowa to task earlier this week for ranked identity theft.  Want another reason as to why this team is a fraud?  They’re the only team in the top 11 this week that’s an underdog against an unranked opponent this week.

I KNOW #6USC will beat #25Notre Dame in South Bend. I see how this game could be close, but Jimmy Clausen and The Notre Dame Irish haven’t played against this much future NFL talent since the LAST time they got blown out by USC.  Let’s see what this Notre Dame team of elite recruits that I’ve been hearing about for the last three years can do against the Trojans dominant D.

Pete Carroll and the Trojans hope to continue their winning ways with BCS ratings looming.

HERE’S WHAT I THINK IS GOING TO HAPPEN

I THINK #3Texas wins The Red River Shootout. I see this game as a competitive shootout just like last year, which prompts me to call this year’s tilt The Red River Rerun.  I’m a little bit shaky on this one as The Sooners have less to lose, yet will still be playing with must-win intensity.

I THINK #9Miami will continue its roll at UCF. Too much talent, too much momentum, and too much on the line at this point for The Canes to do something silly like lose to an inferior Central Florida squad.  But you never know with these in-state rivalries.

HERE’S WHAT I’M PROBABLY WRONG ABOUT

I’m probably WRONG, but Georgia will recover at Vanderbilt. Coach Mark Richt and The Bulldogs are in the midst of a bit of a controversy, and they should bounce back after a rough week at Tennessee, but they could be in danger of an upset as they go on the road for the third time in five games.

I’m probably WRONG, but #4VA Tech (-3) will cover at #19GA Tech. VA Tech is a legit darkhorse to end up in the title game, but by no means does that mean I think it’s going to happen.  Let’s see them pass another tough test this week.
