College Football Crapshoot: “Charlie, have you met Brian? He wants to try your headset on for a bit…”
__________________________________________________________________________College Football |
With The BCS National Championship picture taking form in rare, smooth fashion the usual frenetic pace heading to the finish line in College Football seems to be curbed as TCU may be the team left on the outside of the BCS picture whining about being robbed. If a Hornfrog whines about being left out of a national title picture and nobody hears it…

Remember THIS?!! Charlie's Coaching 'Internship' could run its course come Saturday
Our attention turns to the ongoing saga of Charlie Weis’ fight for his life. No, we’re not talking about his cholesterol/shortness of breath/[insert fatboy symptom] but rather the fight for a job that he is one loss away from losing to Cincinnati coach Brian Kelley if he wants it (don’t take it, Brian, it’s a trap!).
As big as The Charlie Weis situation is, the games on tap for this weekend make for some intriguing subplots if nothing else. We’re tired of waiting for that ‘big upset’ so there’s a certain theme to this edition of The Crapshoot, see if you can sniff it out.
HERE’S WHAT I KNOW WILL HAPPEN
I KNOW Boise State will beat Idaho soundly. State just doesn’t lose at home and it’s a big reason they (think that they) are having trouble scheduling the big boys. Idaho is Idaho and they will do what Idaho does on the road against a superior football team and that’s lose.
I KNOW LSU will beat Louisiana Tech. The Bulldogs have been playing competitively as of late but with their 4th road game in 5 games against annual victor of the LA Tech/LSU tilt, Louisiana Tech doesn’t stand a chance.
HERE’S WHAT I THINK WILL HAPPEN
I THINK TCU beats Utah at home. With no Oklahoma on their schedule and a clear path to at least a seat at the head table at The BCS ceremonies, TCU will receive yet another break as their toughest opponent, an opponent that has been victorious in the last three contests, will have to come to come to TCU. TCU has too much to lose to come out flat, and their defense should be too much for this particular Utah team to handle for all four quarters. I think.
I THINK Ohio State retains The Big 10 Title. No Iowa bashing, here as I don’t feel good at all about this pick. This one could go either way but I’m giving the edge to the coach with Big-10 Championship experience. Iowa doesn’t want The Big-10 title anyway, there’s still a chance that an angry Trojan team could be showing up to the Rose Bowl and we all know what USC does to Big-1o teams.
HERE’S WHAT I’M PROBABLY WRONG ABOUT
I’m Probably WRONG, but Miami will finally win at UNC. Can you believe that The U has NEVER won at UNC? Well believe it. And (try to) believe that this streak will end Saturday.
I’m Probably WRONG, but Notre Dame will beat Pitt on the road. I’ve always been of the belief that the more public criticism rises, the better the chance for the subject of the scrutiny to come out with the win, ESPECIALLY if that subject is the underdog. Charlie Weis and The Fighting Irish play their biggest game of the year (betchya Lou Holtz and that Notre Dame National Title pick didn’t think they’d be hearing that about Notre Dame @ Pitt) and with no room for error against a slightly overvalued Pittsburgh team, I see The Domers and Charlie Weis hanging on for an emotional win. But I’m probably wrong.
