As The NFL season has reached its halfway mark, it is now time for the second of four NFL Quarterly Reports here in The Big Nasty Athletic Dept.  The corporate offices of The Big Nasty Athletic Dept. has handed down its report for Q2-09, our analysis has provided us with pristine insight that will place you team into one of the following four categories (in no particular order).

Analysis and trade tips on The NFL's 32 'businesses'.

Analysis and trade tips on The NFL's 32 'businesses'.

Who’s Peaking: Top of the food chain, cream of the crop, rulers of the roost, tried and true, possible future playoff/Superbowl BUSTS.  Know when to sell this stock.

In The Black: Profitable, under the radar, playing within themselves, a great investment for your money.

Don’t Sell this stock just yet: Not moving any units but there’s potential.  They haven’t peaked yet (most of them haven’t come close) but should they peak at the right time, look the hell out.

See what you can get for ‘em: SELL! SELL! SELL! SELL!  Does it sound like I’m on Wall Street, yet?  SELL! SELL! SELL!  You get it.

Who Has Peaked?

  • The New York Jets (4-4): Busted that nut off a little too early, huh Sanchise?  Although their bye week is coming at the right time, after a 3-0 start this team seems to be destined to stay average and finish 8-8 one way or another.

Who’s (Still) Peaking?

  • Minnesota Vikings (7-1): With a handful of emotional wins out of the way in the first half of the season, the post-Lambeau Hype Vikes still have some room for growth potential and has put itself in great position to notch a playoff spot late in the season.
  • Philadelphia Eagles (5-2): We all know what a lopsided win over a New York team does for the general media’s perception of a team.  Although The Eagles may be a tad bit inflated at this point, they are playing their best football in the second quarter of The 2009 season.
  • Indianapolis Colts (7-0): The best team in The AFC, but past financial reports have indicated that this team has a propensity to become extremely unprofitable as the season nears its finale.
  • New Orleans Saints (7-0): With an abnormal amount of defensive touchdowns, their growth potential has already began to reach levels that are deemed unsustainable by our financial analysts.  Be ready to sell this stock when the time is right, and do not hold on to it come playoff time.

In The Black

  • Houston Texans (5-3): This is their best start ever and although Matt Shaub leads the league in yards and touchdowns, The Texans have proven to have depth in their running game.  This team will truly provide some diversity in anyone’s portfolio.
  • New England Patriots (5-2): May be a tad bit over valued as the Dolphins begin to come along strong.
  • Miami Dolphins (3-4): Undervalued and proven to be profitable which is exactly what you want when looking to invest.
  • Dallas Cowboys (5-2): Analysis in previous years has shown that The Cowboys have a propensity to go into financial turmoil as the season progresses.  Be careful.
  • Cincinnati Bengals (5-2): Still a lot of room for growth for this team as they may prove to be the most profitable investment of them all.
  • Chicago Bears (4-3): Just barely.  You’re going to have to load up this stock if you want to see a return in investment.  We just can’t figure The Bears out.
  • Arizona Cardinals (4-3): Playing in the weakest division in the NFL the past five or so years has done wonders for The Cards’ value.
  • Denver Broncos (6-1): Be ready to sell if The Broncos begin to struggle as their schedule gets tougher and their playcalling more conservative.  But this is still a very profitable team that has not peaked yet.
  • San Diego Chargers (4-3): The Chargers seem to play their best football late and they’ve had a profitable second quarter.
  • Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2): Well on their way to begin peaking as they have gotten back to their winning ways and playing defense.
  • Baltimore Ravens (4-3): See Pittsburgh Steelers.

Don’t Sell Their Stock Just Yet:

  • Tennessee Titans (1-6): Say what you want about Vince Young but the guy is a winner.  He won with Texas, he’s never had a losing record in two full seasons as a starter with The Titans, and he lead Tennessee to their first win of the season.  This kid has created some value for the Titans and you can get them for cheap.
  • Atlanta Falcons (4-3): All of a sudden, The Falcons find themselves falling into a small hole.  If you bought this stock back in Q1-09, you’ve definitely lost money, but now’s the time for your intelligent buyers to scook up some shares in The Falcons as this talented team begins to fight for its season.
  • Jacksonville Jaguars (3-4): Although they’re in the ‘don’t sell yet’ category, I like Maurice Jones-Drew and nothing else.  This team is going nowhere, don’t waste your time trying to figure them out and sell their stock if you bought it as their coach will likely be let go should their underachieving ways continue.
  • San Francisco 49ers (3-4): A quarterback change in San Fran could be a good thing for this team in an average division with an outstanding defense.  Another team you can get for cheap and possibly cash out on in the long run.
  • New York Giants (5-3): Many have lost a lot of money by investing in these Giants but if you give them time they should have a chance to get that money back for ya.
  • Green Bay Packers (4-3): Be careful of The Packers’ inability to win a big game. Their four wins have come against The Bears, Browns, Lions, and Rams.  A showdown with Dallas in two weeks should give us a good indication of where this team is heading, and you’ll need to make a decision of whether to buy or sell prior to playing this game.
  • Washington Redskins (2-5): Although they haven’t won a game since our last quarterly report, their value is extremely low for a team with a defense that good and these Redskins could prove to be a solid investment for your money coming off of a bye week with media criticism at a all time high.

SEE WHAT YOU CAN GET FOR…

  • Oakland Raiders (2-6)
  • Kansas City Chiefs (1-6)
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-7)
  • St. Louis Rams (1-7)
  • Seattle Seahawks (2-5)
  • Carolina Panthers (3-4)
  • Buffalo Bills (3-5)
  • Cleveland Browns (1-7)
  • Detroit Lions (1-6)
