UFC 106: Don’t Call It a Preview
__________________________________________________________________________The card that was supposed to ‘make the earth move’ should still move some units despite being compromised with the highly publicized and ongoing illness of Heavyweight Champion and top draw Brock Lesnar, as well as injuries to Mark Coleman and Ricardo Almeida and Karo Parisyan pulling out of his scheduled bout with Dustin Hazelett.

UFC 106 will feature Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin
Forrest Griffin taking on Tito Ortiz in the main event will be a great fight for fight fans and should do a good job circling the wagon with main stream fans. The welterweight bout between rising star Anthony Johnson and Josh Koscheck should also be a fantastic fight with showstealing potential. Welcome back, Tito, you’re a star again.
YOUR UFC 106 MAIN CARD PREDICTIONS
Forrest Griffin over Tito Ortiz. Forrest needs this fight and always seems to save his best stuff for the biggest stars The UFC has to offer. Tito Ortiz coming off of a back surgery, as well as a 2 year layoff from fighting, will experience natural ring rust that an aggressive Forrest Griffin should be able to take advantage of. I see Forrest winning a unanimous decision.
Anthony Johnson over Josh Koscheck. Josh Koscheck is the better fighter in this one, but Anthony Johnson is on fire and is a biiiiiig boy fighting in the welterweight division (how he makes weight I’ll never know. Cut off one of his legs maybe?). Anthony Johnson’s heavyweight style of fighting, with every punch he lands a sure threat to cause his opponent to wake up in his corner, could overwhelm the smaller Koscheck who will be battling a 5 inch reach disadvantage.
Paulo Thiago over Jacob Volkmann. Paulo’s had a bad matchup with Jon Fitch, but should be more comfortable in what may turn out to be a quite boring fight between two Jui-Jitzu specialists. I truly believe Paulo Thiago will be a champion in the welterweight division if he is given more time and continues to assert his superior submission game.
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira over Luiz Cane. We’re going to learn a lot about an impressive Luis Cane after this fight with an always dangerous Antonio Rogerio Nogueira. This should be a very exciting and calculating fight between two fairly well-versed fighters who can end a fight in a number of ways. Luiz can and should win this fight, I just don’t think he will.
Amir Sadollah over Phil Baroni You could argue that Amir Sadollah was robbed in his last fight so I’m taking him based on principle. It doesn’t help that Phil Baroni, a senseless brawler, statistically loses every other fight he’s involved in.
YOUR PRELIMINARY FIGHT PREDICTIONS
Marcus Davis over Ben Saunders
Jake Rosholt over Kendal Grove
Brock Larson over Brian Foster
Fabricio Caomes over Caol Uno
George Sotiropoulos over Jason Dent
