HE GONE?! Urban Meyer Steps Down as Head Coach of Florida Gators
__________________________________________________________________________Don’t close the door on the ‘story of the year’ conversation quite yet.
In a developing story that has sent shockwaves through the sporting and college football world, multiple news outlets are reporting that Florida Head Coach Urban Meyer will be stepping down after the Allstate Sugar Bowl. Meyer released the following statement regarding his resignation:
“I have given my heart and soul to coaching college football and mentoring young men for the last 24-plus years and I have dedicated most of my waking moments the last five years to the Gator football program,” Meyer said in a statement.
I have ignored my health for years, but recent developments have forced me to reevaluate my priorities of faith and family.
After consulting with my family, Dr. Machen, Jeremy Foley and my doctors, I believe it is in my best interest to step aside and focus on my health and family.”
According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, Meyer is expected to assume a non-coaching role in the future. The exact details of Meyer’s health issues are currently unknown and there is no word as to whether or not Meyer intends to coach again. Meyer has won 2 national championships in 5 years in Florida, and arguably has been the most accomplished head coach this decade.
