NFL Quarterly Report Q3-09: Vikings Peaked? Chargers, Packers, Cardinals Peaking
__________________________________________________________________________The third quarter of The NFL season has come to an end and we’ve got some great financial advice moving into the playoff push.

Brett Favre and The Vikings could fumble down the stretch as the weather gets colder.
Our quarterly NFL investors meeting from 3Q-09 places emphasis on ‘peaking’ teams whose value may be a little lower than the general media has lead you to believe.
Who’s Peaking: Top of the food chain, cream of the crop, rulers of the roost, tried and true, possible future playoff/Superbowl BUSTS. Know when to sell this stock.
In The Black: Profitable, under the radar, playing within themselves, a great investment for your money.
Don’t Sell this stock just yet: Not moving any units but there’s potential. They haven’t peaked yet (most of them haven’t come close) but should they peak at the right time, look the hell out.
See what you can get for ‘em: SELL! SELL! SELL! SELL! Does it sound like I’m on Wall Street, yet? SELL! SELL! SELL! You get it.
Who Has Peaked?
- The Minnesota Vikings (10-2): That’s right, kiddies, it’s time to start selling your stock on the Minnesota Vikings. We’re not overreacting towards that 2 pick performance from Favre, but with the brutal schedule The Vikings play down the stretch (a schedule that will see a 40 year old Brett Favre roll into freezing Temperatures in Chicago and Carolina for their only ‘easy’ games) The Vikings may be primed to fizzle out down the stretch. Analysis has shown that both The Minnesota Vikings and Brett Favre have a propensity towards melting down late in the season. Given circumstances of the 2009 Minnesota Vikings, we have every reason to recommend you sell this stock before it tanks.
Who’s (Still) Peaking?
- Philadelphia Eagles (8-4): The Eagles need to get their current injury situation straightened out, but they are rolling at the right time as they usually do at this point every season.
- Indianapolis Colts (12-0): Many feel that this team can and will go undefeated. Hold on to this peaking stock for now, but be weary of this team’s proclivity towards resting players late and then coming out flat in the playoffs.
- New Orleans Saints (12-0): Who dat is surging as the season progresses. Investors in this stock will continue to see impressive dividends, but Drew Brees’ 1-2 career playoff record should be something to consider going into the 4th quarter.
- San Diego Chargers (9-3): This team is peaking personified. For all the flack Norv Turner gets, this team peaks at the right time every year and has overachieved in the playoffs under his tutelage (sorry, Marty).
- Arizona Cardinals (8-4): The Cardinals have learned how to win on the road and in big spots. This team has the grit that indoor teams often lack. Don’t be fooled by the fact that they play in a weak division. The Cardinals can beat any team in The NFL on any given Sunday.
- Tennessee Titans (5-7): A loss to The Colts last week dealt a crushing blow to this teams playoff hopes, but behind the stregnth of the best running back in The NFL, this team should return to its winning ways to finish the season strong after an 0-6 start.
- Green Bay Packers (8-4): With 4 straight wins and the offensive line gelling, The Green Bay Packers are officially dangerous. Everybody knows how good this offense is with Aaron Rodgers’ top-5 stats, but with The Packers’ D playing well enough to enjoy a #1 ranking, The Green Bay Packers are peaking at the right time.
In The Black
- Miami Dolphins (6-6): Don’t sleep on this undervalued team’s ability to repeat as division champs. The Dolphins have slowly gotten away from The Wildcat as their quarterback, Chad Henne, matures. The Dolphis will be hanging around as the season comes to a close.
- Cincinnati Bengals (9-3): The Bengals continue to fly under the radar despite having one of the best records in The NFL, and with The Steelers and Ravens suffering their respective tailspins, The Bengals are in prime position of hosting a playoff game.
- Denver Broncos (8-4): The Denver Broncos have been winning games lately, however they have had favorable matchups. This team will not win a playoff game, if you ask us, but their defense and running game makes them a real threat late in the season.
- Jacksonville Jaguars (7-5): The Jags seemed to have solved some inconsistency issues to surge as we get closer to the playoffs. Some tough matchups down the stretch will give us an idea of how good the Jaguars are, but with a great closer at runningback (Maurice Jones-Drew), we like their chances at sneaking into the playoffs to the chagrin of anybody who cares about ratings.
Don’t Sell Their Stock Just Yet:
- New England Patriots (7-5): This team has a winning culture, and their recent struggles will highlight their ability to band together in the face of adversity and punch that adversity right in the sack.
- Houston Texans (5-7): The Texans still have an outside shot at the playoffs as well as a favorable schedule for the next two weeks that they could allow them to build momentum heading into a tough 2 week stretch to end their season.
- Dallas Cowboys (8-4): We don’t want to hear about this teams’ struggles in December. The Cowboys have some tough games to finish their season, but Tony Romo has taken better care of the football lately and we like him to finally lead The Cowboys into profitable territory come January.
- San Francisco 49ers (5-7): The 49ers are 8-3-1 against the spread this season and their one of the few teams in The NFL who may be better than their record indicates.
- New York Giants (7-5): This team is considered ‘marginally profitable’ according to our analysis so invest with caution.
- New York Jets (6-6): We thought The Jets had peaked in our previous quarterly report, however a switch at quarterback could continue the momentum of this team and create a bit of a quarterback controversy in The Meadowlands.
