Gorilla Press Scouting Report: Tyler Reks
__________________________________________________________________________ In a never before seen (by us) new feature that would make Dusty Rhodes cream in his pants, The Gorilla Press will begin conducting scouting reports on developmental talent committed to both WWE and, sometimes, TNA. The WWE’s immense growth has given way to developmental relationships with Florida Championship Wrestling, and with the Youtube Age we are able to efficiently scout up-and-coming talent before they make their debut on the big stage. Before you see them get buried or pushed at the next level, you will have the rare opportunity to get an in-depth breakdown of the superstars of tomorrow today. Talent will be evaluated on a five-star scale in 4 categories: Overall Rating, Physique, Charisma, and In-Ring Work.
Overall Rating: ****
Physique: ****
Charisma: ****
In-Ring Work: ***1/2
Strengths: Athleticism, charisma, and he’s got ‘the look’.
Weaknesses: He’s bit raw in the ring.
Similar Styles: Ricky Banderas, Chuck Polumbo
Accolades: FCW Heavyweight Champion (1x), FCW Tag-Team Champion (1x)
Signature Moves: High Tide (Theatrical Elbow Drop), Inverted Death Valley Driver, Springboard Dropkick, Springboard Moonsault from the corner.
Scouting Report: Tyler Reks has great potential to go all the way to the top of The WWE roster given he finds the right workout partner. Reks stands 6’3 and weighs 252 pounds with an impressive physique. However, if his FCW character is any indication of how he will be used in The WWE, Reks faces many potential setbacks.
Reks is currently being booked as a ‘surfer dude’ who is billed as being from Laguna Beach. He wears his hair in dreadlocks and once worked in surfer shorts. One does not need to be a genius to arrive at the conclusion that this act screams mid-card comedy at best.
If Tyler Reks is going to make any sort of impact at the next level, he will need to cut his hair and hope to god that he is distanced from this WWF RVD-like surfer gimmick. One of Reks’ signature moves, entitled High Tide, is an elbow drop reminiscent of The Boom Drop, MVP’s Ballin, or The Worm where Reks uses a Robot-esque dance move prior to hitting a big elbow drop. Do this in The Big Leagues and you’ll be mid-carding WWE Superstars for the rest of your days.
All in all, Reks has a bright future. If you read the dirt sheets, you’ve probably heard this name thrown around from time to time as WWE has been using him at live events and in ECW on occasion. The jury is still out on Reks’ promo work, however if he is booked the right way, Tyler Reks could and should follow in the footsteps of Drew McIntyre and Sheamus as new guys to make an immediate splash. No Pun intended.
Key Match: Tyler Reks vs. Joe Henning vs. Heath Slater
