Hulk Hogan Quoterack, BROTHER!

“So there I was, brother, Wrestlemania 3!  One hundred and six thousand four-hundred forty-seven Hulkamaniacs were all jam-packed into The Pontiac Dome in Detroit!  I know because Vince was short on staff at the ticket booth that day, and I volunteered to work the booth myself.  While working the ticketing booth I counted every Hulkamaniac to walk into the building, all one hundred and ten thousand four-hundred sixty-eight of them!

Andre [The Giant] weighed in at an astounding six hundred and fifty-six pounds that day!  I know because we were at an airport earlier during the day, and I asked him to stand on a scale to see if I could get him up. When he clocked in at a staggering eight hundred and eighty-one pounds, I told him I at least had to ‘give it a shot’, brother!

When we finally came face-to-face in the main event of Wrestlemania 3, in front of one hundred and twenty seven thousand four-hundred and forty-two screaming Hulkamaniacs in The Pontiac Dome, I knew what I had to do to get this match over.  Andre gave me the cue, brother, and in front of one hundred thirty one thousand four-hundred and forty-nine Hulkamaniacs, I slammed the myth known as Andre The Giant…All Nine hundred and sixty-six pounds of him!  BROTHER!”

[Not an actual quote by] Hulk Hogan

Hulk Hogan is a storyteller, and as is the case with any storyteller where exaggerations enter the territory of ubiquity, Hogan is a one man quote machine.  Hulk Hogan has had a lot to say regarding the state of pro wrestling and what he intends to bring to the table in the main stream pro wrestling picture come 2010.

Hulk Hogan is always full of quotes.

Hulk Hogan is always full of quotes.

In honor of Hogan approaching his first month with potential WWE competitor Total Nonstop Action (TNA), and on the heels of yet another huge announcement for the company as they will be going head-to-head with The WWE on Monday Night come March 1st, we have decided to dedicate our next Quoterack to the man who revolutionized pro wrestling.  In this edition of The Quoterack, we will revisit some interesting quotes from Hogan (The TNA employee version) regarding WWE, TNA, and the pro-wrestling landscape as a whole.  BROTHER!

“On January 4th, TNA Impact, we’re going wide open, we’re going head [to] head, we’re going to battle with The WWE!”

-At The Ultimate Fighter Finale [Wrestling Truth]

“That’s a huge deal for me, man. I never thought that they would bring me in to like the Vince McMahon role with another wrestling company kind of like I did with WCW years back. I actually used to have this same role back in the day, except it was unofficial. Vince’s dad ran the league while I was down here in Minnesota kicking ass with Verne Gagne and when he died, they talked me into coming back. So I came back and found that Vince McMahon, who owns the company now, didn’t really understand the business. So I moved in next door to him in Connecticut and taught him all about lifting weights and riding motorcycles and partying like a mad man; and then I taught him about the wrestling business and making money. And now I’m doing that again with TNA Wrestling.”

-Hogan’s infamous claim of teaching Vince McMahon everything he knows about pro wrestling [Gimme Noise Blog]

“What we have now is the writers telling the wrestlers what to say and do. I’m coming in to push the writers aside. Sure, they still have to make it flow and block time. If the wrestlers need a writer to tell them what to do, they can pack their bags and go north to WWE. Writers don’t have a feel and instinct for the business. They’ve never been in the ring. If I can’t make it work, I’ll pack my bags and leave.”

-On TNA Writers [Wrestling Inc.]

“(In TNA), I’m going to take the writers and tell them, ‘go get another job. Sit in the back. If I need you to write a jingle for a commercial, maybe we’ll use you for that.”

-On TNA Writers (again) [SportsFM 91.3]

“Everybody (at Spike) was scared of their own shadow. ‘What if we don’t do a number?’ The thing is, I said, ‘Don’t even worry about it. You have to give the audience a choice.”

-On TNA Ratings, during an interview where The Hulkster predicted a 3.0 rating for January 4th Impact. [Right After Wrestling]

“I’ve got guys that are over, or guys that are active. Guy’s who aren’t active. Guys who work for the WWE are blowing my phone up. And it’s just happening naturally, I was all messed up in the head and I thought that would be tough. … And the people in the (WWE) offices are scrambling around like chickens with their heads cut off. So it’s good for the business. And no matter what Vince thinks, it’s going to be great for his business too.”

-On WWE Superstars wanting to come to TNA [IGN.com]

“You can go out there and have 5-star matches all day long. And I love A.J. Styles to death, don’t get me wrong. But Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, Jack Briscoe, Harley Race, A.J. Styles all gave 5-star matches and now (holds hand up to head) this is the water level now, when the water level rises and TNA is the number one sports entertainment company in the world, if you keep having those 5-star matches like that and you don’t do the cross-over media and we don’t have (Jay) Leno or Regis (Philbin) calling A.J. Styles instead of me then people that are having those crazy, unbelievable off-the-chart matches are going to be mid-card at best.”
