Scouting Report: Bryan Danielson is one of a handful of five-star recruits, that The WWE has brought in from the independent circuit lately, to coincide with the influx of next generation talent. Danielson could very well be one of the new names featured on The WWE’s upcoming NXT television show on Syfy, aimed at showcasing the next generation of WWE superstars.
Danielson’s accomplishments on the independent wrestling scene speak for themselves as he has been the face of independent wrestling for years. His aggressive, unique, and crowd-pleasing in-ring style has earned him the nickname of ‘Best in the World’, a nickname The WWE will make sure does not follow him into the fed.
Danielson could do big things on the big stage of The WWE, but many negative stereotypes against independent wrestlers unfortunately reign true with Danielson. Despite his brilliant work in the ring, Danielson is undersized (at just 5′10, 190 pounds) and comes nowhere close to having ‘the look‘ of a typical WWE Champion. While Danielson has above average promo skills for the typical independent wrestler who focuses primarily on wrestling, Danielson’s mic work still leaves much to be desired.
‘The American Dragon’ recently worked a dark match with Chavo Guerrero, where the two tore the house down and Danielson was as sharp as ever. This is a good sign, considering The WWE wants to bring him up to the main roster as soon as possible, and his style was not watered down to the mainstream level as much as one would assume. The WWE just needs to focus on this kids in ring work and the rest should take care of itself.
Combined with his notoriety on the independent circuit, Danielson’s strong in-ring work will make it easy for pro wrestling fans to get behind him. Danielson needs to be kept away from the bigger guys, and should not be placed in the Evan Bourne glorified jobber role, if The WWE intends on making him the star that he can very easily be.
