Gorilla Press Scouting Report: Skip Sheffield
__________________________________________________________________________
The WWE’s immense growth has given way to developmental relationships with Florida Championship Wrestling, and with the Youtube Age we are able to efficiently scout up-and-coming talent before they make their debut on the big stage. Before you see them get buried or pushed at the next level, you will have the rare opportunity to get an in-depth breakdown of the superstars of tomorrow today. Talent will be evaluated on a five-star scale in 4 categories: Overall Rating, Physique, Charisma, and In-Ring Work.
Overall Rating: ***
Physique: ****1/2
Charisma: ****
In-Ring Work: ***
Strengths: A charismatic and entertaining performer
Weaknesses: Needs a lead dog in the ring to have a good match, Southern gimmick will limit his potential.
Similar Styles: Scott Steiner, John Cena, Ivan Putski
Accolades: OVW Heavyweight Champion (1x)
Signature Moves: Overhead belly-to-belly suplex, sledgehammer punch (AKA Polish Punch), Over the Shoulder Boulder Holder (Piggy-back stunner)
Headline Potential: Lower Midcard, Midcard
Scouting Report: Skip Sheffield’s immense size and charisma allows him to stand out among the sea of talent down in FCW. His comedic pre-match promos and antics have become somewhat of a staple in FCW and Sheffield seems to have a strong connection with the fans.
Sheffield’s style in the ring is reminiscent of the typical athletic, muscular talent who can have good matches if set up with the right guy.
While Sheffield seems to display all the tools on paper to be a top-notch talent, his current Southern Skip Sheffield gimmick will create a ceiling for his career if it is to stick with him should he be called up to the main roster. The WWE has had a history of making comedy gimmicks out of wrestlers with Southern accents (Jamie Noble, The Godwins) rendering it impossible to take them seriously as world title contenders. Skip Sheffield’s South-friendly catchphrase, of ‘Yip! Yip! Yip!’, has been used frequently in FCW as well as in dark matches for WWE which indicates that agents in WWE are at least considering keeping the gimmick as is. If this is the case, one should curb their expectations for Skip Sheffield at the next level.
Key Match: Skip Sheffield vs. Tyler Reks
