Cup Shots: South Africa
__________________________________________________________________________With less than a month to go until the World Cup, we will be doing our own semblance of a countdown with Cup Shots. This department will focus on one picture from each team that will be competing in the World Cup leading up to kick off. The picture will be accompanied by the mandatory comments from both The Big Nasty Athletic Dept. and readers like you. Let’s start counting.
According to the Christian Science Monitor, South Africa has spent over 3.5 billion pounds preparing for the World Cup. Much of this monstrous budget has gone into building and renovating 10 stadiums (pictured above: Moses Mabhida Stadium).
This is a good news/bad news scenario for South Africa. The good news being that South Africa will be on display in its finest form with so many visually appealing stadia placed on front street for the whole world to see. South Africa may also face a situation similar to post-Olympic Beijing, where the famed Bird’s Nest was transformed into to a mall.
