Strikeforce- “Feeder” vs. Werdum: Don’t Call it a Preview

The protected mythical creature otherwise known as Fedor Emelianenko takes on his latest, um, challenge as he steps into the cage with glorified feeder opponent Fabricio Werdum.

Can’t wait.

I’ve chosen to refer to the so-called greatest fighter in the world as “Feeder” Emelianenko until he accepts a real fight.

The appeal for this card is that it will boast the best male and female fighters in all of MMA. Arguable, but definitely something Strikeforce can legitimately lay claim to and hang their hats on.

Ticket sales for Fedor: Werdum in San Jose reportedly started off stagnant, once again calling into question Fedor’s drawing power.

However sales seem to be trending towards a sellout as they have picked up as the fight approaches.

Fedor Emelianenko (-575) over Fabricio Werdum. Fewer have been more vocal in their criticisms of “The Last Emperor” than myself.  In fact, many seem too busy nibbling on Feeder’s jock strap to find the time to write something blaspheming this mystically great specimen.

But let’s call a spade a spade here, folks.

Feeder arguably carries more stroke than any fighter in MMA right now.  He can fight who he wants, in any promotion he wants.  Doesn’t it bother anybody that he’s fighting in a silver medal (yet growing) promotion against bronze medal fighters?

I’m picking Fedor, not because I think he’s the greatest thing since peanut butter and jelly, but because he’s fighting yet another UFC castoff who was exiled from the promotion for sub par performance.  Fedor vs. Werdum Strikeforce

Fedor wins, San Jose yawns.

Scott Smith (+240) over Cung Lee. Scott Smith defeated Cung Lee in one of the greatest comebacks you will ever see, and call me crazy, but I think he can do it again.

Cung Lee will be out for blood, but Scott Smith’s striking should keep the multi-faceted figher at bay for most of this one.  Expect hesitance (yes, hesitance) from the heavily favored Lee who will likely be seeing ghosts upon trying to engage with the heavy handed Scott Smith.

Cristiane Santos (-1500) over Jan Finney. Jan Finney is the only female crazy enough to take a fight against Cristiane Santos right now.  Make of this fight what you will, but before Finney’s recent hot streak she dropped 7 of 9 fights.

Seeing her husband  victorious over Zaromskis should give Santos an added spark and a developing game of oneupsman(and womans)ship should end in a first round knockout by Santos.

Josh Thompson (-500) over Pat Healy. Thompson is a very talented fighter who suffered a tough decision loss to the equally talented Gilbert Melendez.

Pat Healy does not possess nearly enuogh skills to pull off the upset here, and unless Thompson gets caught, this fight should be another first round thriller as Strikeforce seems to have had a lot of those lately.
