The Gorilla Press Previews: WWE Fatal 4 Way

With the WWE heavily invested in the ‘concept’ pay-per-views, Fatal 4 Way will be yet another event featuring attraction matches in big spots with the intention of creating interest.
The Fatal Four world title matches really only feature the combination of the top feuds on each brand, hardly creating the must see-caliber of interest necessary to move the buyrates.
This event’s saving grace will be the heavy amount of buzz and interest created with the recent NXT Invasion angle and subsequent firings that have raised questions of what’s real and what’s a work.
Hell, we reached out to WWE spokesperson Robbert Zimmerman for an official statement on Bryan’s firing and all we got was a lousy ‘future endeavored statement.
Also creating interest is the “Kane Holmes” angle as Kane seeks out to find who turned his brother into a vegetable. [Insert favorite vegetative state joke here]
Maryse over Eve Torres, Alicia Fox, and Gail Kim. A little bird tells us that the ‘element of surprise’ will be beaten over our heads for the length of this pay-per-view in hopes of putting over this chaotic concept of four individuals waging war for the right to be champion.
The Diva’s matches haven’t been very good as of late (and by ‘late’, we mean a few months to years). Expect four Divas in the ring at the same time to be twice as cluttered as two in the ring at the same time with the exception of Gail Kim who will be doing everything in her power to ensure Eve’s flurry of dropkicks are sold properly.
Maryse wins after the ref is alerted to cut the match short after one minute.
The Miz over R-Truth, Zach Ryder, and John Morrison. We can’t have all the titles change hands, now, can we? The Miz just fits as U.S. Champion for now and there could be interest in a babyface chase of the belt by R-Truth. However Miz just picked up a championship on Monday after losing the title just a few weeks prior, and this potato needs to cool down a bit. Isn’t that right, Undertaker?
Kofi Kingston over Drew McIntyre. One thing is for sure, you’re going to accept Drew McIntyre as a top heel one day whether you like it or not. Sure he has his detractors now, but it has become quite evident that this man will remain on TV in a significant role until the fans throw up their hands, lay back, and accept him the same way Tiffany did.
Oh we went there.
Matt Hardy once again causes Drew McIntyre the gold setting the stage for a stipulation match at Summerslam.
Jack Jobber Swagger over the Big Show, CM Punk, and Rey Mysterio. Swagger’s pattern of jobbing of television to trick people into thinking they will be paying for a World Title change will continue as Swagger pulls off one of those opportunistic wins where he robs The Big Show of a win by stealing a pinfall victory at the expense of Rey Mysterio.
Sheamus over John Cena, Edge, and Randy Orton. We really haven’t yet gotten enough mileage out of the Orton/Edge feud, so this feud will presumably continue past Fatal 4 Way, and if that’s the case, it does not need a title. John Cena has never beaten Sheamus on TV or at a pay-per-view, and a Sheamus win will further intensify this fact. Sheamus and Cena will likely be the WWE Championship pairing for Summerslam, and a babyface chase would be a more profitable aspect of that program.
Shockers, Surprises, and CHAOS!! WWE employee Jim Ross was obviously put up to this by McMahon, but he has gone on record as saying that there will be “surprises and shockers” at this Fatal 4 Way pay-per-view. This is a preview, so we would be remiss if we didn’t at least take a shot at what they could possibly be.
Surprise #1. Chris Jericho is revealed as an assailant who has been assisting the NXT rookies with their dirty deeds. His presence helps the rookies obtain contracts so that the in ring aspect of this angle can begin.
Surprise #2. After clearing the ring of the Fatal 4 Way participants in the World Title match, Kane reveals himself as the culprit behind the Undertaker’s demise.
Then he takes a bite out of a piece of celery with a little black hat on it and proceeds to scream “HE’S DEAAAD!! DEEEEEAAD!! DEAAAAAAAD!!!!”
Talking with his mouth full. What a lack of manners. How heelish of him.
Surprise #3. Daniel Bryan returns and reveals himself as the limo driver. He’s fired. Get it through our heads or hold our breath for 90 days waiting for him to come back.
