Kane guaranteed longest world title reign in career. With 24 hours in the books, Kane is currently enjoying the longest world title reign of his career to compliment his current renaissance run.  Kane’s win in an impressive Smackdown Money in the Bank ladder match was sealed with an equally impressive sequence where the former 24 hour WWE Champion cashed in his briefcase at the expense of Rey Mysterio Jr.

The crowd was great for the whole show, and came alive when Rey Mysterio, who is not exactly a complete fan favorite in the old-school wrestling hotbed of Missouri, dropped his World Title to Kane shortly after going over Jack Swagger.

Jack Swagger’s preemptive jobbing continues. Despite the fact that Jack Swagger can take solace in the fact that he had perhaps the match of the night with Rey Mysterio Jr., he once again suffered a clean job that will hurt his character more than it will help.  Jack Swagger World Champion

In our preview, we predicted that Rey’s looming ankle injury was an “out” of sorts so the WWE could have an excuse as to why Jack Swagger subsequently beat Rey Mysterio Jr.  But the ankle injury only served as a catalyst for Kane to swallow Rey Mysterio whole.

And speaking of Rey Mysterio Jr., what the hell was up with Rey’s outfit?  The black leather mask and pants made the otherwise PG-friendly Rey Mysterio look like an S&M sex toy.  The only thing missing was the gag and some handcuffs.  We half expected him to beg and plead Kane for more punishment because he was being a bad boy.  (Another) Bad choice in wardrobe for Mysterio.

Alicia Fox Trots on. Alicia Fox’s office push continued with a win over heatless Eve.  This was the inevitable come down match, however the women worked hard, were given ample time, and delivered a quality match.  Who else holds their breath in fear every time Fox goes for that scissor kick?  She always lands it so awkwardly.  That finisher is the female equivalent of the Starship Pain.

Haha, scissor.

Miz’s lunch box is better than yours. It was a good move by the WWE to have Kane cash in his MITB briefcase so quickly so that one superstar stood out to put more focus on one briefcase before he eventually cashes it.  It was even better that the superstar in question was The Miz, a young, upstart superstar who will be more than serviceable enough on the mic to build the briefcase up until it is inevitably cashed in successfully.  The Miz WWE Money in the Bank

Miz as WWE champion has been a long time coming considering we are in a new blood era that has seen the Jack Swaggers and Sheamus’ of the world become champions out of nowhere.

Miz ‘s win was a very good finish to what was the second of two very good Money in the Bank matches that made the pay-per-view worth all $450 that you were charged.

Sheamus earns third tainted pay-per-view victory over John Cena. Sheamus’ third win over John Cena, a win that was once again assisted by the Nexus and once again followed by Sheamus running for his life,  was yet another win surrounded by controversy.  Sheamus has been and will continue to be a strong WWE Champion.  Yet the fact that he seems to be banned from pinning John Cena in the middle of a ring, with no outside interference or ballyhoo, has begun to take on a life of its own.

As the night went on, it seemed as if Cena may go over Sheamus, only to get attacked by the Nexus leaving the door wide open for the Miz to trade his lunch for a WWE Championship.

GRADE

It’s been a lackluster first half of the year for pro wrestling pay-per-views as both the WWE and TNA have pretty much stayed the course.  The WWE did a good job of shaking things up and setting up storylines leading up to what should be a stacked Summerslam pay-per-view.  Both Money in the Bank matches delivered, and due to the circumstances of the pay-per-view, the matches in between received adequate time which added to the pay-per-view.  Aside with the minor botched high spots in each Money in the Bank match, there was very little wrong with this pay-per-view.  B+
