Gorilla Press Previews TNA No Surrender (Yeah, That’s Tonight)
__________________________________________________________________________Sunday, Sept 5, 2010
Leave it to TNA, and their oft-criticized booking philosophy, to produce little to no buzz for a first time encounter (in TNA) between two of the biggest wrestling superstars of all time.
TNA gets heat for giving away too much on TV, thus devaluing any future match up that could potentially make them lots of money. This time around, the creative team seemed to have smartened up to such booking flaws by keeping the principles apart from one another (at least in the ring) and saving it for pay-per-view.
Due bad timing (Labor day?), and bad booking, however, TNA continues to struggle to get you ass to the TV set.
With the probability of TNA going without a World Champion for two months, and Bound for Glory (one of the few pay-per-views that actually creates some semblance of a buzz for TNA) on the horizon, No Surrender has been perceived to be a throwaway pay-per-view despite its best efforts.
So, without further a do, let’s get this over with.
Madison Rayne over Velvet Sky. It looks as if TNA is going to let Angelina run with the title for a bit, and the babyface reincarnation of the Beautiful People have been getting the better of Madison as of late. Expect this heel to get her heat back with help from the Biker chick who has finally revealed herself to be Tara.
Abyss over Rhino. For whatever reason, Rhino got the upper hand on Abyss two weeks ago on Impact in a random brawl. Abyss then did the job to…Stevie…Richards…TNA will continue to feature Abyss until he finally disappoints you as to who “They” are at Bound For Glory, but he still needs something to do in between. So they’re feeding him Rhino.
Besides, if Abyss loses he’ll just wake right back up and go ballistic so what’s reall considered a loss with this guy?
Douglas Williams over Sabu. A sure fire candidate to steal the show as Sabu showed that he still has something in the tank back at Hardcore Justice. Douglas Williams and the rest of Fourtune need to start winning consistently to be taken more seriously, so we’ve got Williams.
Jeff Jarrett and Samoa Joe over Kevin Nash and Sting. I’m too confused by this storyline to even explain how this one’s going to go down. I’m pretty sure Hogan and Jarrett will be revealed as the heels, but how TNA gets there is a whole ‘nother story.
A.J. Styles over Tommy Dreamer. Tommy Dreamer (almost) never quits. So he’ll probably submit to the Figure Four instead.
Motor City Machine Guns over London Brawling Generation ME. After The Guns’ standout match with Generation ME on Impact, it should have been a foregone conclusion that Generation ME would get another shot at MCMG on pay-per-view to stimulate the buyrate a bit.
However, TNA’s original plan was to go with London Brawling (Magnus, Wolfe), who had never worked a match on Impact before and were suddenly announced as the #1 contenders. It’s good to see that TNA may have come to their senses (or whatever is happening there), but this is too little too late.
Ken Anderson over D’Angelo Dinero. Looking at these semi finals, your biggest potential money match for the TNA Championship, at Bound For Glory, is a heel Ken Anderson and a babyface Kurt Angle. The Pope’s sentiments of Anderson being up to no good are proven right as Anderson uses heel tactics to get the win.
Kurt Angle over Jeff Hardy. Because Kurt Angle can’t lose or he’s retired, right? Whatever.
