NFL Playoffs: Are the Jets Turning into the Philadelphia Eagles?
__________________________________________________________________________The New York Jets suffered their second straight AFC Championship loss as their comeback efforts fell short when Roethlisberger salted the game away in true Anti-Aaron Rodgers fashion.
Super Bowl XLV will now pit the best 4th quarter quarterback in the NFL against the worst 4th quarter quarterback in the NFL when Ben Roethlisberger does battle against Aaron Rodgers. However Raji v. Pouncey’s backup could be the matchup to watch should Pouncey’s injury persist come Super Bowl Sunday.
The Jets’ second Championship loss in two years brings up memories of another team that donned green, however they played in the NFC and their names were the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles, also having to contend with a notoriously brutal sports media outlet, lost in three straight NFC Championship games from 2003-2005 before finally clinching a Super Bowl berth at the end of the 2005 season.
Unlike the Eagles, this Jets team has been underdogs in their first two AFC Championship appearances. However with a second place schedule next year, and the Patriots’ window of opportunity steadily slamming shut, one has to believe that the Jets will once again be near the top of the food chain when it comes to teams favored to go to Super Bowl XLVI.
It’s likely that Sanchez and a hungry Jets team will be playing their first playoff game at home under Rex Ryan next season. Should they lose that game as a favorite, the comparisons to those Philadelphia Eagle teams will be justified.
