Victor Ortiz Choke Job Does Not Make Floyd Dirty

Floyd Mayweather vs. Victor Ortiz

By now you’ve heard of Floyd Heelweater’s “dirty” ways as he snatched a 4th round knockout from the jaws of a would-be Heelweather blowout.  The problem is, while arguably cheap (but so the hell what) there was nothing dirty about Mayweather’s victory.

Following an illegal Victor Ortiz headbutt, prompting embattled referee Joe Cortez to separate the fighters and deduct a point for the cheating champion, Ortiz over-attempted to apologize to Mayweather as he made concerted efforts to hug Mayweather in an effort that would have gained the approval Judah Friedlander.

Immediately following the awkward hug, Mayweather quickly exacted a basic one-two punch combo, ending what would have been a long night for Ortiz anyway.

Victor Ortiz has now had two significant mid-fight mental lapses since 2009, making him more than worthy of the unenviable “mental midget” tag.

Protecting yourself at all times isn’t some ancillary boxing rule like the Tuck Rule once was in football, but rather the oldest boxing rule that is read aloud in the “Boxing Miranda Rights” prior to every fight.

Before each fight begins, with Mayweather-Ortiz bearing no exception, each fighter is instructed to protect themselves at all times, and fight a good, clean, fight.  Ortiz did neither, and was Deebo’d as a result.

Serves him right.

After all, had that been Floyd Mayweather throwing an illegal headbutt and then getting knocked out for his troubles, the “couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy” sentiment would have dictated that he deserved it for fighting dirty.  Since Ortiz was the culprit, however, the headbutt will be seen as a non-factor in what should a be a healthy firestorm of attention for a sport that desperately needs it.
